About Bassett Hall [-]
Home to philanthropist John D. Rockefeller Jr. and wife Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, Bassett Hall became Abby’s “Dream of Dreams.” During the home’s guided tour, you’ll gain insight into the lives and times of two of Williamsburg’s most regarded residents. Preserved to the original tastes of Mrs. Rockefeller, Bassett Hall tells the intimate story of two people and their wish for a retreat and a place of relaxation. Rockefellers lived and the rooms furnished with Mrs. Rockefeller’s collection of “lovely things,” and the wares that accommodated them. From the eclectic furniture, folk art, and figures that decorate the spaces to anecdotes about how the pieces came into the Rockefellers’ possession, you’ll receive a glimpse into the 1930s and 1940s and the lives of two of America’s most prominent figures. Outside, you can stroll the Colonial Revival gardens and imagine what a day might have been like for the Rockefeller family as they watched the restoration of Williamsburg unfold.
